Seed Bed Prep

Lawn preparation is a specialist Job that requires experience and great attention to detail, first off the entire site needs to be levelled, with equal topsoil covering, suitable drainage and fall where required.

  • Weed Control, Both nuisance grass and broad-leaved weeds need to be controlled by chemicals or manually removing prior to seeding.

  • Removal of debris, The top surface of the seedbed needs to be cleared of stones, wood and remaining dead grass. This will aid a clean equal sowing and subsequent mowing.

  • Soil Cultivation, Soil should be cultivated to a depth of 15 – 25cm; this is of particular importance where compaction could be a problem.

  • Fertilisation, Soil should be analysed for Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potash, and suitable fertiliser applied, and incorporated into the top 5 cm.

  • Final seedbed preparation, The site need to be raked to create a fine tilth, rolled to maintain an moist seedbed, then seeded evenly on the surface and rolled again to aid soil / seed contact.

Flourish – Biological Seed Stimulant

All our amenity seed is treated with flourish, a biological seed treatment specially designed to improve seedling establishment. It accelerates germination and root growth in all amenity grass varieties.

Flourish is especially beneficial under stress conditions; such as in cold wet soil when many amenity varieties are slow to germinate and are prone to damping off diseases. In dry soil Flourish gives the young seedling the extra boost to enable them to grow away.

Flourish contains natural biological growth promoters, which need no specific handling precautions. Each seed is coated with Flourish for uniform establishment, even under difficult growing conditions. This helps the seed mixture you sow out-compete weed grass species to produce denser harder wearing turf.
